This past summer I virtually interned with Shell's pipeline organization, working with the pipeline reliability and integrity team who monitor and maintain the pipeline assets owned and operated by Shell. This includes using Pipeline Inspection Gauges (PIGs) to inspect the pipeline, investigate the holidays (anomalies) discovered by the tool, and performing repairs on the asset to increase its lifetime of operation.
Throughout my internship I met with more than 20 subject matter experts to increase my mechanical engineering and industry knowledge in topics such as: material corrosion and cracking, metal failure mechanism, subsea inspection and repair, Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) technology, and more.
My main internship project was to work with the Pipeline Integrity Program (PIP) team to improve database for tracking schedule and completion of federal regulatory required integrity assessments on Shell’s 380+ midstream assets. This project required me to utilize Microsoft Visual Basics Application and Macros to create a user friendly interface where engineers can input information relating to the assessment and track the milestones during the inspection and repair process in addition to mitigating human errors by automating tasks.
To help Shell achieve its next zero carbon emissions goal, I collaborated with Shell’s sustainability network group, Future Energy Lions, to increase ridership with electric rideshare startup, Electrip.
